Document Management & Workflow

For long written matter on material such as paper has been the primary manner in which information has been stored and distributed. Constantly increasing paper has posed problems both in terms of storage and more importantly the ability to retrieve the information contained within hundreds and thousands of pages.

  • It is estimated that companies in the US alone produce about 600 million pieces of computer printout, 232 million photocopies, 76 million letters and other types of paper based documents every year.

  • If all the design documents related to a Boeing 747 aircraft were printed and loaded into the aircraft it would have a problem taking off, as the total weight of the paper would be 450,000 Lbs!

With the increasing use of computers in business and the advent of email and the Internet, information is no longer just stored on paper but in a multitude of different formats such as computer files, audio and video. This has led to the media centric storage of information rather then information centric storage i.e. information is being stored based on the media it exists on. This obviously is the most efficient method and causes delays and all manner of other problems when it comes to information retrieval.

EDICT®

MMCS has over the years developed products that address this problem. Our flagship product EDICT enables users store information based on information content rather than the media on which it is contained.
